Hybrid schooling is a form of education that falls under the homeschool umbrella, as parents are required to teach their child from home with the guidance of certified teachers.

With this approach, students attend school in a classroom setting for part of the week and learn from home (or a coffee shop or the local park) on the other days of the week.

Families who “hybrid school” often say it is the best of both worlds. They enjoy the benefits of giving their children a classroom experience – and all the good things that a traditional school setting offers – with the freedom, flexibility, and individualization that homeschooling provides.

PEAK Christian Academy is a hybrid school program located in Abilene, TX. We are not a homeschool co-op, but a collaborative community of parents, students, and teachers who come from various walks of life, but share similar philosophies on education, faith, and childhood.

PEAK is a Christ-centered community that forges character, fosters wisdom, and nurtures a lifelong passion for learning.

Tuition is currently $4,500 per student in kindergarten through sixth grade. Please see the Junior High and High School pages for tuition information specific to those levels. We offer various payment plan options so you can choose the one that best suits your family.

Unfortunately, we do not offer financial aid or reduced tuition at this time, but it is something we hope to offer in the future.

We meet at 4515 South 14th Street. We rent this space from Westminster Presbytarian and are not affiliated with any specific church.

PEAK students in kindergarten through 8th grade are on campus 3 days a week – Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday – and learn at home on Monday and Friday. Junior High students and High School students have the option of 2 or 3 days. On-campus days begin at 9:15 AM and dismiss at 3 PM.

Morning electives are held from 8:45 to 9:15 AM on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. These classes are optional and vary in subject matter by semester. There is an additional fee for electives, which is decided upon before each semester begins.

At PEAK, we follow routines instead of schedules. Although most days have a recognizable rhythm, we enjoy the freedom to let the curiosity and enthusiasm of our students lead the way. We leverage hands-on learning, mixed age groups, and real-world problem-solving to create an environment that cultivates self-led learners.

PEAK students collaborate with their peers, set personal and community goals, journal as a daily practice, learn to use technology safely, and so much more. Keeping our mission at the core, we provide experiences that foster a love for God, others, and learning, while pointing our students to the example of Christ. And yes, we do have recess!

Our teachers have the autonomy to choose the curriculum that best fits the needs of their classroom. We use a mastery learning approach as often as possible, allowing our students to learn at their own pace as they master skills and progress toward personal learning goals. Parents and teachers work together to recognize gaps in learning and support the student in achieving true mastery.

Likewise, parents also have the autonomy to choose their own curriculum! We do have recommendations, but ultimately, it is your family’s choice. At PEAK, we cover all subjects except for spelling and history, which are the responsibility of the parents to teach at home on Mondays and Fridays. We affirm the parent’s role as the primary influencer in a child’s education, and it is our joy and privilege, as teachers, to come alongside each family on their journey as Trailblazers. (That’s our mascot!)

As far as subjects go, PEAK parents are responsible for teaching spelling and history, and are expected to provide a healthy (and happy) learning environment at home on Mondays and Fridays.

We offer Kindergarten through high school.

No. There are several options for families to access optional testing through online options.

Rather than traditional grading practices that aim to quantify learning, we use mastery learning techniques to build upon previously taught concepts and promote independent cognitive reasoning.

Homework is required Friday through Monday as part of our collaborative partnership. This is separate from any lessons taught by the parent at home. Homework – we call it “Weekend Work” – is assigned by PEAK teachers on Thursdays and is collected when PEAK resumes on Tuesday of the following week.

We are not associated with any specific denomination, but focus primarily on the teachings of Jesus found in the New Testament. These lessons are profound, yet simple enough for a child to understand, and are relevant to everyday life.

At PEAK, we might memorize scripture, study The Beatitudes, or take time to share what God is doing in our lives. PEAK students encourage and pray for one another, serve with joyful hearts, and resolve conflict with grace and compassion. We are not perfect, but with Christ as our example, we endeavor to be beacons of truth, light, and love.

At this time, PEAK does not offer general campus tours. This choice is intentional and rooted in our desire to protect the integrity, rhythm, and relational culture of our learning environment. Our days are deeply focused on the students currently entrusted to us, and we prioritize minimizing disruption to their learning, exploration, and sense of safety within our space.

Instead, we’ve designed our application process to be thoughtful and relational. Families who move forward to Step 2 of the application process will be personally invited to campus for a family interview. This allows us to offer a more meaningful, purposeful, and aligned introduction to PEAK, in a way that honors both our current students and prospective families.

At PEAK, we deeply believe in the power of play as the foundation for learning. Research consistently shows that children who engage in play-based environments develop stronger problem-solving skills, creativity, language, and social-emotional health. All of these set them up to thrive academically later on. 

When it comes to preparing your child for kindergarten, our biggest encouragement is this: prioritize a love of learning over early academic pressure. Children who are curious, confident, and eager to explore are far more ready for school than those who have simply memorized early skills.

That said, we do value strong foundations. Helpful ways to prepare include:

• Lots of unstructured play (indoors and outdoors)

• Being read to daily and engaging in conversations about stories

• Opportunities to practice independence (following simple routines, cleaning up, etc.)
